Magellan Assist is Absolute Garbage

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Blue Shield of California uses Magellan Assist for processing behavioral health service claims. In turn, Magellan Assist makes it as difficult as possible for consumers to actually access benefits.

The Magellan Assist website contains no reasonable claim form. There is only a cut-paste link to a CMS 1500 form that has the word "SAMPLE" across the center of the page. The requirements for submitting a provider's bill are equally ridiculous. The site indicates the out of network provider must list the patient's insurance membership and group numbers on the provider's bills.

Magellan Assist knows that out of network providers do not do this. There is no process for submitting claims through the website. One must actually print and mail a hard copy. The website does not even list the address to which the hard copy claims should be mailed!

It is clear they are making it as difficult as possible, so that the average consumer will not be able to access benefits for out of network services. In short, Magellan Assist is a garbage company that exemplifies everything wrong with the medical insurance industry in the US.

There is an employee that works their name Randy Vincent. This man while on the job tried to initiate cyber-sex over skype or zoom with my wife. Just wanted you to know what kind of shenanigans are going on in your company. Is this what kind of employee's you hire. I'm very disgusted and very upset. Hope you're going to do something about this.

my insurance company uses them and their company nia for prior authorizations of services. first off I don't like the fact that there's another company that's looking at my medical information and secondly, that they are employed to second-guess the decisions that are between my doctors and me.

once the authorization request is submitted they always have to have chart notes alternative treatments that have been done and diagnosis i. I was scheduled to have a interlaminarial corticosteroids injection done was not approved for the data service which made me have to sign a liability statement and the only reason it was not approved was because of a pain score number that was given repeatedly by me that they did not take my word for and from my doctor's office which they their word for they've caused me so much stress and they are horrible company

To improve mental health substance abuse coverage

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have been a Magellan provider for 10 years. The notoriously deny authorizations necessary to provide substance abuse treatment. They do not use ASAM criteria to determine medical necessity. They do not use DSM5 criteria. The provider manual does not tell you HOW they determine medical necessity. Peer to peer review means NO. It is clear MDs already have decided before the review. Symptoms are not considered. HOW CAN THIS GET CHANGED

FRAUD! RUN!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
The purpose of this review is to make the public aware and most importantly beware of this company. The situation is as follows: I pay $200 extra per month to have out-of-network insurance coverage through AVMED and Magellan Behavioral Health. It has been extremely problematic to get reimbursed for each of the claims I submitted. I have sent each of the claims three or four times, EVERY TIME the claims have been denied for preposterous reasons, such as: "We did not receive your claim because you mailed it to the address on the claim form and that is the wrong address;" or "The claim does not have a NPI on the form" (It did!!); the NPI number is incorrect (It isn't). and the funniest, "you did not write the word "corrected" on the claim, instead you wrote, "resubmitted", ECT, ECT, ECT. Each time the claims have been denied claiming the information submitted was either insufficient or incorrect, when in fact, the information WAS CORRECT. I keep calling representatives, who say someone will call me back within 48 hours. BUT THEY HAVE NOT FOLLOWED UP. Stay away from this company. At this point, I am exhausted of dealing with this administrative nightmare; I have submitted a complaint to the BBB stating my indignation with Magellan Behavioral Health.
